In 2010, Hartlepool was proud to be chosen as the finishing port and only UK host port for the Tall Ships Races. The event took place between 7th and 11th August and was England’s biggest free event with one million visitors expected to visit!
The Tall Ships Village linked the two berthing sites and included street entertainment, trade stalls, a World Market and music acts. A stage was set up in the heart of the village with our 2 x 46sqm screens either side, ensuring the thousands of spectators could see (and hear!) the live entertainment.
In 2011, the ships docked in the Shetland Islands and we were faced with the daunting task of shipping our 40 tonne, 19m screen truck across the stormy North Sea! Over the course of the weekend, thousands of visitors took the opportunity to board and explore the Tall Ships berthed along the Lerwick waterfront.
With over 100 music performances over the weekend, including some fantastic local musical talent, thousands enjoyed the headline concerts on Friday and Saturday night featuring Levellers and Bjorn Again, followed by a spectacular firework display which graced the skies of Lerwick with the Ships berthed at Holmsgarth providing the perfect backdrop.
Our 46sqm screen complimented the outdoor stage, and our full production crew including 3 HD camera crew and edit facilities filmed the live action and mixed the content to broadcast on screen.
