Introducing Sky Fly: The Apex of Big TV Innovation
Sky Fly stands tall as one of the most intricate and sophisticated LED screens in the World. The Sky Fly, tailor-made by Big TV to fill a gap that had long been unaddressed in the LED screen industry.
This cutting-edge unit can be thought of as two interconnected entities. The core, which houses the crane and screen, can be detached from the trailer and lowered to the ground. With the support of a remote-controlled hydraulic stabilizer, along with demount and levelling legs spanning an 8-metre square area, the stability of the hefty 28-ton unit is guaranteed as it descends to the ground or rises high enough for a person to walk beneath it.
The crane serves as the stronghold for the 33 square metre high-definition LED screen, lifting it up to an impressive 20 meters. Its double fold capability allows it to vault over houses, displays, or even stage-side equipment.
Our design goes beyond just the screen. Nestled onto the base of the detachable unit, you’ll find a compact control room, generator, fuel tank, and hydraulic tank. The hydraulic manipulator, fitted at the end of the arm, has the facility to rotate, tilt, pan, and even fold the screen in half, embodying the complexity of our hydraulic design.
But the innovation doesn’t stop there. We also designed the custom trailer, featuring three steering axles and a storage area at the front. It even includes connectors for attaching the skid.
Sky Fly made its grand debut at the British Formula 1 Grand Prix at Silverstone. It soared above the hospitality suites, providing an overhead screen experience where none could be placed before. This is more than just a screen; it’s a revolution in big TV technology.
Sky Fly 8mm Pixel Pitch
So what is SMD LED technology and why is it a good thing for outdoor screens? No doubt you’ll have heard people referring to “virtual” and “true” pixel pitches in reference to LED screens because this is how many outdoor screens work.
A screen with a virtual pixel pitch has 4 LED’s that make up each pixel (2R, 1B, 1G) and the 4 LED’s that make up that pixel can be shared with the pixel either side of it. This effectively halves the distance between each pixel – in a way it’s a visual trick on the viewer’s eye when displaying the picture. Whilst on a good quality screen with a good processor, this results in a high quality image, on some screens pictures and particularly text can appear blurred and colours may not be true to life.
Our 33sqm screen will use SMD (Surface mounted display) RGB LED technology, where there is one LED per pixel which has the RGB colours within it. The 8mm pixel pitch refers to the actual distance between each LED. The 8mm true LED screen will have 15,625 pixels per square meter, in comparison, an 8mm virtual LED screen will only have 3906 pixels per square metre.
HIRE A SKY FLY SCREENOutdoor LED Screen
The outdoor Sky Fly LED screen has 4 times the number of LED’s than its virtual pixel pitch counterpart, and doesn’t need the image to be shared between pixels because the pixels are physically there.
This gives the screen content clearer definition and colours.
